Work Smarter Not Harder
Is hard work the key to succeeding with a small business? Not when we perform hard work at the exclusion of all else. The key to success with a small business is working hard AND working smart. Often, when you work smart you make the process easier as opposed to harder.
Some might assume simply putting in more hours will automatically improve results. In some ways, this can be helpful. You certainly would not want to become lazy and take shortcuts. But, do not assume that you can overcome a problem by simply throwing a lot of “man hours” at the problem. Such an approach has a logic flaw associated with it. If you have not corrected the prime problem, doing more of the same not only won’t address the problem; it may make the problem worse!
For example, if you are not being as productive as you should be, you may wish to delegate some of your tasks or streamline the steps you take to perform such tasks. Simply adding another two hours to your work day will probably reverse much of the problem. This creates a perception of solving a problem when it really is not being solved. Rather, you are running the risk of frustrating yourself in the process.
Who would want an outcome like that?
Often, the solution to reversing a problem deals with examining what the problem is and then making proper corrective decisions. You could even employ a “two for” in the process by working smarter and working harder. Some of the most successful small business owners and entrepreneurs understand this concept which is why they are….successful!
